“... to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes,

the oil of joy instead of mourning,

and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.

They will be called oaks of righteousness,

a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor. “

Isaiah 61:3

2020 in Review

Of course, God’s work in the city couldn’t be stopped, and the unique needs and challenges of the year saw the Spirit of God moving in new and beautiful ways. Here’s a birds-eye view of what we saw.

Donating for 2021

We are grateful for the ways that we can assist missional leaders and partner with God in the work he is doing in our city, and look forward to serving alongside them in this new year. If you'd like to donate to our mission, or you are already an active donor and would like to adjust the amount you are giving, continue below.

Letter from the Directors

Welcome to this new, online version of the Foreground. It’s great to have you here!

Margaret Mead is often quoted as saying, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” Our network of microchurches has been a living, breathing example of this. This year more than most, we saw both the necessity and the power of small bands of people empowered to be the church wherever God has deployed them. With a pandemic limiting large gatherings, it was these small bands of people, committed to Jesus and his way, that were his hands and feet to many. This was the year the priesthood of all believers remembered the church has never been a building but has always been the people of God. While it could’ve been tempting to batten down the hatches, many of you started new microchurches or found creative ways to pivot. What an honor it was to journey with you all and hear stories of God’s hand at work in what appeared to be a perilous time.

As we embark on a new year, we are listening again for who God is calling us to be and what it means to the church in our time. While we have no idea what 2021 holds for us, it’s our prayer that we wouldn’t just be reactive to the times, but that we would play our part in proactively making the future.

Thank you for saying yes to Jesus and for being part of this missional family.

In Christ,

Lucas Pulley & Tomy Wilkerson
