A Poverty Externship in Manila, Philippines

In 2006 we sent a team to Manila, Philippines for nine months to be mentored by Filipino church planters who shaped our understanding of working with the poor and the lost, and how to empower others to be the church. Our basic structure, Manifesto Values, and conviction to serve people to hear their calling and help them try to be the church in our city came during that time. Manila has always been a place of learning and transformation for us. It can be for you too.

We have seen the ways that threshold experiences like these has produced an understanding of Jesus and His mission in a way that we might not have access to otherwise. This part of discipleship is central to our work and the foundations of our community. In June 2024, a group of us will spend 10 days living in the slums of Manila, learning from Filipino church planters, and being shaped by God among the desperation of the world.
